the holder of a PPL is authorised to pilot an aircraft as pilot in command or co-pilot if: [CASR 61.505]

(d) an aircraft that is flying or operating for the purpose of, or in the course of:
(i) the personal transportation of the owner of the aircraft;
(ii) aerial spotting where no remuneration is received by the pilot or the owner of
the aircraft or by any person or organisation on whose behalf the spotting is
conducted;
(iii) agricultural operations on land owned and occupied by the owner of the aircraft;
(iv) aerial photography where no remuneration is received by the pilot or the owner of
the aircraft or by any person or organisation on whose behalf the photography is
conducted;
(v) the carriage of persons or the carriage of goods without a charge for the
carriage being made other than the carriage, for the purposes of trade, of goods
being the property of the pilot, the owner or the hirer of the aircraft;
(va) the carriage of persons in accordance with subregulation (7A);
(vi) the carriage of goods otherwise than for the purposes of trade;
(vii) flight training, other than the following:
(A) Part 141 flight training (within the meaning of regulation 141.015 of CASR);
(B) Part 142 flight training (within the meaning of regulation 142.015 of CASR);
(C) balloon flying training (within the meaning of subregulation 5.01(1)) for the
grant of a balloon flight crew licence or rating; or
(viii) any other activity of a kind substantially similar to any of those specified in
subparagraphs (i) to (vi) (inclusive);
shall be taken to be employed in private operations.
On and after 1 September 2015, the holder of a PPL is authorised to exercise the privileges of the licence in a multi-crew operation only if the holder has completed an approved course of training in multi-crew cooperation. [CASR 61.510]
The holder of a PPL that was granted on the basis of regulation 202.272 is taken to meet the requirement mentioned in subregulation (1) if, before 1 September 2015, the holder conducted a multi-crew operation. [CASR 61.510]
The holder [of a pilot licence] is authorised to exercise the privileges of the licence in an aircraft of a particular category only if the holder also holds, as the associated aircraft category rating for the licence, the aircraft category rating for that category of aircraft. [CASR 61.375]

The holder of a pilot licence is authorised to exercise the privileges of the licence in an aircraft that has a design feature mentioned in regulation 61.755 for the aircraft only if the holder also holds the design feature endorsement for the design feature. [CASR 61.380]

The holder of a pilot licence is authorised to exercise the privileges of the licence in an aircraft only if the holder is competent in operating the aircraft to the standards mentioned in the Part 61 Manual of Standards for the class or type to which the aircraft belongs, including in all of the following areas: [CASR 61.385 (1)]
The holder of a pilot licence is authorised to exercise the privileges of the licence in an aircraft that has an operative airborne collision avoidance system only if the holder is competent in the use of an airborne collision avoidance system to the standards mentioned in the Part 61 Manual of Standards. The holder of a pilot licence is authorised to pilot, during take-off or landing, an aircraft of a particular category carrying a passenger by day only if the holder has, within the previous 90 days, in an aircraft of that category or an approved flight simulator for the purpose, conducted, by day or night: [CASR 61.395 (1)]

A person shall not, while in a state of intoxication, enter any aircraft. [CAR 256 (1)]
A person acting as a member of the operating crew of an aircraft, or carried in the aircraft to act as a member of the operating crew, shall not, while so acting or carried, be in a state in which, by reason of his or her having consumed, used, or absorbed any alcoholic liquor, drug, pharmaceutical or medicinal preparation or other substance, his or her capacity so to act is impaired. [CAR 256 (2)]
A person shall not act as, or perform any duties or functions preparatory to acting as, a member of the operating crew of an aircraft if the person has, during the period of 8 hours immediately preceding the departure of the aircraft consumed any alcoholic liquor. [CAR 256 (3)]
A person who is on board an aircraft as a member of the operating crew, or as a person carried in the aircraft for the purpose of acting as a member of the operating crew, shall not consume any alcoholic liquor. [CAR 256 (4)]

Pre-flight Altimeter Check
Whenever an accurate QNH is available and the aircraft is at a known elevation, pilots must conduct an accuracy check of the aircraft altimeter(s) at some point prior to takeoff.
Note: Where the first check indicates that an altimeter is unserviceable, the pilot is permitted to conduct a further check at another location on the same airfield; for example, the first on the tarmac and the second at the runway threshold (to determine altimeter serviceability). [AIP ENR 1.7 (1.3.1)]
With an accurate QNH set, a VFR altimeter(s) should read site elevation to within 100FT (110FT at test sites above 3,300FT) to be accepted as serviceable by the pilot. If an aircraft fitted with two VFR altimeters continues to fly with one altimeter reading 100FT (110FT) or more in error, the faulty altimeter must be placarded unserviceable and the error noted in the maintenance release. [AIP ENR 1.7 (1.3.1)]
VFR altimeters are not permitted for aeroplane operations above FL200. VFR flights operating above FL200 must be equipped with an altimeter calibrated to IFR standards. [AIP ENR 1.7 (1.3.2)]
A QNH can be considered accurate if it is provided by ATIS, Tower or an automatic remote-reporting aerodrome sensor. Area or forecast QNH must not be used for the test. [AIP ENR 1.7 (1.4.1)]

fixed fuel reserve means an amount of fuel, expressed as a period of time holding at 1500 feet above an aerodrome at standard atmospheric conditions, that may be used for unplanned manoeuvring in the vicinity of the aerodrome at which it is proposed to land, and that would normally be retained in the aircraft until the final landing. Holding must be in accordance with approved procedures. If aircraft are required to hold at a point for which no procedure is published, they must do so in a manner specified by ATC. [AIP ENR 1.1 (11.4.1)]

It is an offence to authorise maintenance on an aircraft in Australian territory by a person who is not permitted to carry out the maintenance [CAR 42ZC (1)]
This CAAP provides a copy of the instructions contained in Schedule 8 of CAR 1988 which specifies the maintenance that may be performed by pilots of class B aircraft (other than a student pilot). [CAAP 42ZC-1 (2.1)]
